ZAGREB, Aug 13 (Hina) - Several fires broke out during the afternoon
in the Sibenik-Knin County. Most of them are on areas that are
difficult to approach or mined, so putting them out is very
difficult and dangerous.
The fires are not threatening to residential areas, the Croatian
government Crisis Committee said on Thursday afternoon.
A new fire also broke out in the Split-Dalmatia County near the
village of Celina at around 4pm. The fire is currently restrained to
a 100 hectares area.
The fires on the island of Korcula have been restrained and placed
under control. Fire-fighting has been facilitated by the dying down
of the wind.
The fire near the village of Brno has lessened in intensity and
firefighters have the area in control. The fire is not threatening
to residential areas.
Fire-fighting troops from France have arrived to help with the
fires.
The fire on the island of Lastovo has been localised and placed
under control.
Flames on mount Velebit in the Libinjska Kosa and Lozice area have
been put out.
