PRISTINA, Aug 5 (Hina) - Kosovo Albanian leader Ibrahim Rugova on
Wednesday discussed the situation in Kosovo with the ambassadors of
Germany and Austria, which is currently presiding the European
Union.
Talks focused on the exodus of the Albanian population and on
possibilities of finding a political solution to the Kosovo
crisis.
According to a statement from the Kosovo Information Centre, Rugova
assessed the situation in Kosovo as extremely dramatic due to the
continued offensive of the Serbian army and police, which are
attacking and killing the defenceless Albanian population, as well
as burning and destroying Albanian houses and property.
The aftermath is a refugee wave of several dozen thousand Albanians
after the latest offensive alone.
Rugova warned that the aim of these actions was the ethnic cleansing
of Kosovo.
He called on the international community to immediately intervene
in order to stop the offensive and prevent a humanitarian
disaster.
