TRAVNIK, July 29 (Hina) - Members of the Central Bosnia Canton
assembly on Wednesday adopted without debate an amendment to the
cantonal constitution on the restructuring of the Travnik
municipality.
The amendment allows the county seat to be organised on the basis of
the same principles governing the southern Bosnia-Herzegovina city
of Mostar, with power divided and shared between Croats and
Bosniaks (Muslims).
Acceptance of the constitutional change was resisted for a long
time by the Bosniak (Muslim) side, but it eventually caved in to
strong pressure by the international community and Deputy High
Representative Hanns Schumacher.
During the process, councillors from the Croatian Democratic Union
(HDZ) persevered with demands to the international community that
the illegal Bosniak secret police AID be closed down, especially
those based in police administration buildings in the Bosniak-
dominated towns of Travnik and Bugojno.
Croat councillors had also wanted Bosniak officials to be more
forceful in demanding the finding of instigators of crimes
committed against Croat returnees in Travnik.
