Preliminary autopsy results show that Brodarac died of sepsis

Autor: mses
OSIJEK/ZAGREB, July 14 (Hina) - According to preliminary autopsy results, retired general Djuro Brodarac died of sepsis and further postmortem examination will establish what caused sepsis, the Osijek County Court's investigating judge Ante Kvesic said on Thursday.

The investigating judge ordered the autopsy after 67-year-old Brodarac, who was kept in investigative custody in Osijek and transferred to a local hospital when he fell sick on 12 July, passed away in the hospital's intensive care unit on Wednesday morning.

Judge Kvesic told Hina he had received the preliminary autopsy findings citing sepsis, that is internal bleeding, as the cause of Brodarac's death. The papers also show that the patient suffered from a series of diseases, including diabetes, arteriosclerosis and hypertension.

The judge said that he did not known when the final findings of the autopsy would be available.

The funeral of Brodarac, a wartime police chief in Sisak and former long-standing Sisak county prefect and Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) MP, is scheduled for 1700 hrs Friday in Sisak.

Apart from the deceased Brodarac, two more men -- Vladimir Milankovic and Dragan Bosnjak -- are held responsible for war crimes committed in Sisak in 1991 and 1992. The three men were taken to investigative custody three weeks ago after a month-long detention was set for them.

Croatian Health Minister Darko Milinaovic said today that the inspection of the circumstances of the death of retired general Brodarac in Osijek showed that the patient had been provided with the highest level of medical assistance in the Osijek hospital.
