Cardinal Puljic says atmosphere in Bosnia unfavourable for inviting pope

Autor: mses
MOSTAR, June 4 (Hina) - The Sarajevo Archbishop, Cardinal Vinko Puljic, has said that there is no positive atmosphere for a visit of Pope Benedict XVI to Bosnia and Herzegovina as it is "too negatively charged" towards the Catholic Church, with Croat Catholics in that country being in an unequal position.

I fear that an invitation to the pope and the organisation of his journey would be burdened with that negative atmosphere, the dignitary said in an interview which the Mostar-based Dnevni List published on Saturday.

Cardinal Vinko Puljic added that Croat Catholics in Bosnia and Herzegovina were not an equal people.

Therefore, I believe that the atmosphere is not favourable for inviting the pope to visit us, although politicians have forwarded an official invitation, Puljic said.

Puljic and other bishops from Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as many believers from that country have come to Croatia for the pontiff's visit to Zagreb on 4-5 June.

He said that his talks with the Holy Father in Zagreb would not focus on the position of the Croat Catholic community in Bosnia and circumstances in that country.

Benedict XVI has good information about that, he added.
