ZAGREB, April 2 (Hina) - A deputy speaker of the Macedonian
parliament (Sobranje), Tomislav Stojanovski, and Croatian
parliament deputy speaker Vlatko Pavletic discussed the
development of the political situation in Macedonia on Monday, the
Croatian parliament public relations office reported.
The Macedonian parliamentary official said the Sobranje had
concluded that violence would not be tolerated and expressed hope
that reason would prevail and Macedonia would continue to insist on
coexistence, to be ensured with a coalition of Macedonian and
Albanian political parties.
Pavletic said that part of the conflict in Macedonia was partly
caused by the unresolved issues of Kosovo and Montenegro.
During a meeting with the head of the Sabor Committee on Foreign
Affairs, Zdravko Tomac, it was estimated that Croatian President
Stjepan Mesic's attempt at peaceful mediation was a well-
intentioned move which came at a wrong time.
This caused a misunderstanding, but that will not jeopardise the
two countries' good friendly relations, the statement quoted the
officials as saying.
It was agreed that a Croatian parliamentary delegation should visit
the Macedonian parliament soon.
