units have been invited to compete for financial support the United
States Agency for International Development gives to stimulate the
best solutions for urban and ecological issues, the Zagreb office
of the EcoLinks programme said on Tuesday.
The Challenge Grants competition offers financial support to
solutions for the introduction and application of cleaner
manufacturing, water quality integrated management, or global
climate changes.
The EcoLinks programme was founded with USAID funds to back
companies and local government and self-government in Croatia and
the region solve urban and industrial ecological problems in a
market-oriented fashion.
Challenge Grants are not new in Croatia. To date, they were granted
nine times with financial assistance totalling $430,000.
Under competition rules, individuals and non-governmental
organisations cannot compete.
The purpose of the financial support is to encourage partnership
among companies, local government units and associations in
Croatia with organisations from other countries of Central and
Eastern Europe, or the U.S.
The competition closes on May 7.
