MOSTAR/SARAJEVO, March 1 (Hina) - Croatian People's Union president Milenko Brkic on Thursday forwarded a letter to the president of the Croat People's Assembly of Bosnia-Herzegovina, Ante Jelavic, saying he and his party would not
participate in a session of the Assembly scheduled to take place in Mostar on March 3, despite the invitation they received. Brkic believes the position of Bosnia-Herzegovina's Croat people must be regulated through the country's legal institutions and that Croats have enough strength to solve issues which are crucial for their status through state institutions. MOSTAR/SARAJEVO, March 1 (Hina) - Croatian People's Union
president Milenko Brkic on Thursday forwarded a letter to the
president of the Croat People's Assembly of Bosnia-Herzegovina,
Ante Jelavic, saying he and his party would not participate in a
session of the Assembly scheduled to take place in Mostar on March
3, despite the invitation they received.
Brkic believes the position of Bosnia-Herzegovina's Croat people
must be regulated through the country's legal institutions and that
Croats have enough strength to solve issues which are crucial for
their status through state institutions.
"Some of those who should represent the Bosnian Croat people are
inciting negative, even aggressive emotions, thus pushing their
own people in isolation," says Brkic in his letter to Jelavic and
warns that such decisions by the Croat political leadership have
negative consequences for Croats living in the areas where they are
in the minority.
Alluding to the HDZ BiH leadership, headed by Jelavic, Brkic,
believed to be one of the most experienced Croat politicians in
Bosnia-Herzegovina, called on those who won the voters' confidence
to act responsibly and use democratic and acceptable methods in
regulating the status of the Bosnian Croat people.
Announcing a session of the Croat People's Assembly for March 3,
Jelavic said the session would adopt "historic decisions under
which Croats will not participate in the authorities which have
been established without them." He also announced the
establishment of Croat self-government bodies.
The international community's High Representative to Bosnia-
Herzegovina, Wolfgang Petritsch, threatened to ban the HDZ BiH and
replace Jelavic as a member of the country's collective presidency,
should such decisions be made.
