ZAGREB, Feb 7 (Hina) - A Croatian government delegation, headed by
Prime Minister Ivica Racan, is scheduled to visit Poland next week,
Croatian government sources reported on Wednesday.
The visit aims at the promotion of already good political
cooperation and strengthening of economic cooperation between the
two countries, Croatian government spokeswoman Aleksandra Kolaric
told reporters. She added the Prime Minister would be received by
several competent ministers and economists in Warsaw and Krakow.
According to the programme of the visit, the Croatian delegation,
on Monday in Warsaw, will hold talks with Polish senior officials -
President Aleksandar Kwasniewski, Prime Minister Jerzy Buzek, and
the presidents of the Polish upper and lower houses. Also scheduled
is a visit to the Polish chamber of Commerce. The Croatian
delegation will hold talks with representatives of the county
office and visit the Pliva-Krakow factory on Tuesday.
There are no open issues between Croatia and Poland, therefore
there is room for the improvement of economic cooperation, Kolaric
stressed.
Even though the overall trade exchange in 2000 increased by 3.7
percent, Croatia marked the 43-percent drop in Croatia's export to
Poland in relation to the year before.
The drop of Croatia's export to Poland could be explained by the
fact that Croatia exported mostly food processing products and
Croatia's food-processing company "Podravka" opened a branch-
company in Poland.
Croatia is also interested in the improvement of cooperation in the
shipbuilding industry and road infrastructure, as well military
cooperation, considering Poland's membership in NATO.
Given that Croatia and Poland have a common foreign political goal -
joining European integration, Zagreb appreciates Warsaw's
experience, Kolaric added.
The two countries have already signed numerous agreements,
conventions and protocols, while a free trade agreement is in the
process.
According to announcements, during the visit the Croatian
Maritime, Transportation and Communications Minister and his
Polish counterpart could sign an agreement on maritime
cooperation.
