OSIJEK COUNTY BUSINESS PEOPLE VERY SATISFIED WITH VISIT TO VOJVODINA OSIJEK, Feb 2 (Hina) - Commenting on a two-day visit of business people from Osijek-Baranja County to Novi Sad and Subotica in Yugoslavia's northern province of Vojvodina, a county official said the visit was very useful and encouraging for the economic cooperation with business people from Vojvodina. About 100 companies from the Osijek County area have been cooperating with Serbia, Osijek Chamber of Commerce president Zoran Kovacevic said, adding that "part of Croatian business people are still concerned to some extent as to what the domestic public will say." Apart from 55 companies which applied for the visit, other business people from the county visited Novi Sad and Subotica independently. OSIJEK, Feb 2 (Hina) - Commenting on a two-day visit of business people from Osijek-Baranja County to Novi Sad and Subotica in Yugoslavia's northern province of Vojvodina, a county official said the visit was very useful and encouraging for the economic cooperation with business people from Vojvodina. Local business people from Novi Sad and Subotica, too, came in larger numbers than expected, he added. "Vojvodina business people have demonstrated interest in all our merchandise and products, especially those from metal, farming and chemical industries," Kovacevic said. A great interest was demonstrated in cardboard and paper products of Croatia's Belisce multi-plant firm, as well as in products from Osijek's OLT factory of agricultural machinery, and Osijek's food processing industry IPK, especially confectionery. For Kovacevic it is important that Osijek's Slavonska Banka d.d. and Vojvodjanska Banka have established contacts on cooperation. The two sides agreed on the participation of 30 Croatian companies at the Novi Sad Fair in May, and scheduled a visit by Novi Sad and Subotica business people to Osijek for late this year. The visit is to be organised by the Chambers of Commerce of Osijek and Novi Sad, Kovacevic said. Talks at the Chambers of Commerce of Novi Sad and Subotica also tackled the commitment of the Croatian and Yugoslav governments to soon resolve the problem of traffic of people, goods and capital, i.e. visa and customs regimes, and payment transactions. What is important to stress, Kovacevic said, "is the fact that doing business with Vojvodina will help revive the local economy." According to Kovacevic, foreign currency transactions between Osijek-Baranja County and Vojvodina will exceed US$50 million already in 2002. (hina) sb rml
