According Osijek-Baranja deputy county prefect Pavo Sarcevic, the
situation is extremely critical and the highest wave is expected in
about two to three days.
If the water level of the Danube should reach 750 cm, extraordinary
circumstances will be proclaimed against flooding, Sarcevic said.
A meeting was held in Batina during the day with representatives of
Osijek-Baranja County, Croatian Waters, the border police and
water companies in order to discuss flood protection strategies.
Sand bags will be delivered to the area on Friday evening. The
Croatian army is in a state of preparedness.
The largest problem is that the area is still covered by land mines
and the embankment cannot be secured. The most critical point is
located near the Tikves pump station in Zlatna Greda in the Danubian
region.
