The co-ordination discussed a report on the implementation of the
said law and forwarded it to the government.
The law enables debtors to regulate their obligations in a manner
that is manageable for them, yet it brings revenue to the state.
A number of 56,050 applications have been lodged with the condition
of settlement.
According to applications processed so far, it is estimated that
the total amount of debts registered is 0.81 billion euros. Because
of the expansiveness and demanding process, it will not be possible
to enforce the law by the deadline August 21, 2002 when settlement
requests are due.
The co-ordination recommended to the government to adopt a decree
to amend the law, that is that settlement be concluded 30 days after
the Ivica Racan cabinet passes such a decree, a press statement from
the Government's Public and Media Relations Office said.
