Union (HDZ) sharply deplored Sunday's incident on the Danube. #L#
We condemn yesterday's armed attack by the Yugoslav Army against
civilians and children who were rowing down the Danube and the
detention of Croatian citizens in Yugoslavia where they were kept
for several hours, a statement issued by the HDZ Presidency on
Monday said.
The fact that the Yugoslav army detained Croatian officials
emphasises the seriousness of this international incident.
We also condemn the Yugoslav Ambassador's rejection to accept a
protest note from the Croatian Foreign Ministry, the statement
continued.
The HDZ leadership warns the Croatian Government that this form of
brutal and wild behaviour by the Yugoslav army, while efforts to
normalise the bilateral relations are in the full swing, is
unfortunately a consequence of the failure to urgently solve the
border issues with Yugoslavia, which still persist in claiming
parts of the Croatian border territory.
The HDZ Presidency asks the government to urgently and resolutely
concentrate on political and diplomatic efforts with the aim of
resolving the border problems with Yugoslavia and with Bosnia-
Herzegovina as well , the statement concluded.
