Caritas Croatia, the Franciscan Institute, and trade unions have
recently launched a campaign and organised the signing of a
petition urging legally prohibiting stores from working Sundays.
According to unions' data, about 40,000 of the 65,000 employed in
retail have to work Sundays and virtually every holiday expect
Christmas, New Year's Day, and Easter.
Work Sundays and on holidays is not paid as stipulated by the law and
collective agreements, the unions claim, also adding that workers
have to work for months without a week day off.
