The decision establishes that ethnic communities whose language is officially used in the municipality are entitled to display their national symbols. In the future, Serbian, Croatian, and Hungarian flags will be displayed in Subotica.
Municipal assembly chairman Sasa Vucinic said the Croatian and Hungarian minorities' flags would be displayed once national councils adopted their symbols, which he added must be different from their countries' symbols.
Croatian and Hungarian have been officially used in Subotica since 1991.
