VIENNA: UN COMMISSION FOR CRIME PREVENTION AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE IN SESSION VIENNA, May 11 (Hina) - The 13th session of the UN Commission for the Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice started in Vienna on Tuesday.
VIENNA, May 11 (Hina) - The 13th session of the UN Commission for the
Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice started in Vienna on Tuesday.#L#
The session is also attended by Croatia's delegation led by Justice
Minister Vesna Skare Ozbolt.
The main topic of this year's session is "the Rule Of Law and
Development: Contribution to Implementation Activities in the Crime
Prevention and Criminal Justice, as well as Post-Conflict
Reconstruction".
The session will also focus on the re-establishment of criminal
justice in post-war areas as a necessary measure in the struggle
against people trafficking and drug smuggling. The Commission will
talk about how to strengthen the rule of law in developing countries
and countries in transition as well as those facing post-conflict
situations.
The executive director of the UN office for combating crime and drug
abuse, Antonio Maria Costa, greeted the present and said progress in
prevention of all forms of crime could be achieved through the
implementation of international documents, notably the UN convention
against transnational organised crime and other protocols and
conventions.
Croatia has ratified the UN convention against transnational crime and
two protocols. It is also a signatory to the UN Convention against
corruption.
Croatian Minister Skare-Ozbolt is scheduled to speak at the plenary
session and later today she is to meet the general director of the UN
Office in Vienna (UNOV), as well as Antonio Maria Costa.
The session will end on May 20.
