ZAGREB, May 8 (Hina) - Ivica Racan will remain at the helm of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in next four years after 958 deputies at the ninth party election convention voted for him, while 184 ballots were invalid.

the ninth party election convention voted for him, while 184 ballots

Zeljka Antunovic was elected as Racan's deputy. She won 710 votes in
the second round of the voting while the other candidate for this
post, Milan Bandic gathered 288 votes.
Vice-presidents are Zlatko Komadina, Milanka Opacic and Ingrid
Anticevic-Marinovic.
The ninth convention, held in Zagreb on Saturday, also elected 11
members of the supervisory board and 63 members of the main
committee.
The convention of the leading opposition party in Croatia was attended
by many guests -- representatives of the Office of the President of
the Republic, political parties (HNS, HSS, HSP, SDSS, Libra, LS, IDS,
DC and PGS), trade unions, social democratic and related parties from
Europe and the world, and foreign diplomats accredited in Croatia.
British Prime Minister Tony Blair, German SPD party chairman Franz
Muentefering, Hungarian Socialist Party leader Laszlo Kovacs and the
president of the Socialist International, Antonio Guterres, sent
telegrams of support.
