The statement, signed by council chairman and film director Veljko
Bulajic, condemned the incident as "barbaric" and "provocative" and
the graffiti as "hate speak used by chauvinist forces inaugurated in
the past decade".
It said that the council had received some 40 letters, telegrams and
messages from residents of Tivat, Kotor, Dubrovnik, Risan, Cetinje,
Konavle and Herceg-Novi expressing their support to the council and a
desire for dialogue and cooperation between the two countries to
continue at local and national levels.
"Croatia and Montenegro are an example of two countries seeking to
resolve their problems of today through good neighbourly relations
based on partnership," the statement said, adding that their good
relations were "an example to all countries in the region".
