Kosor told reporters that Dusan and Gordana Zec were informed about
yesterday's decision of the government to allocate them one-off
financial assistance because they had lost their parents and had been
left without care and means of living as minors.
"We believe that they will use the money to create conditions to start
living on their own in the future," Kosor said, adding that they
talked about many topics and that she expressed deep sympathy with
their tragedy and wished them a lot of luck and health in life.
Kosor added that they agreed to meet again.
Dusan Zec thanked Kosor, the Prime Minister and the Government "for
our agreement", as well as his and his sister's attorney Anto Nobilo
and the media that covered their family's case.
The public first learned of the Zec family at the beginning of the war
in 1991, when reserve members of the Croatian Interior Ministry killed
Mihajlo Zec, his wife Marija and their 12-year-old daughter Aleksandra
in Zagreb. Although the killers admitted the crime, they were never
put on trial due to a procedural mistake.
Dusan and Gordana, who have been living in Banja Luka with their
grandmother since 1991, filed a lawsuit against the Republic of
Croatia with the Zagreb Municipal Court, seeking 1.5 million kuna in
damages, the amount which the government decided to pay in the form of
one-off financial assistance.
