ZAGREB, April 28 (Hina) - The US Agency for International Development
(USAID) this week will sign ten memorandums of understanding

agency's Project of Reform of Local Self-Government, USAID said in a
statement on Wednesday.#L#
The signing of memorandums, which started on Tuesday in Karlovac, will
resume today in Slavonski Brod and end in Hrvatska Kostajnica on
Friday. Memorandums with the municipalities of Dvor, Jasenovac,
Hrvatska Dubica, Sunja, Topusko, Donji Kukuruzari and Majur will be
signed on Thursday.
The project provides technical assistance to local self-government
units to enable them to more efficiently solve problems that are
important to their residents and adjust to new requirements in the
process of integration with the EU.
Over the past three years the USAID cooperated with the towns of
Bjelovar, Crikvenica, Osijek, Rijeka and Varazdin.
The purpose of the agency's four-year project, which costs 19 million
dollars, is to introduce modern state administration and initiate
judicial reform to strengthen the self-government sector in most of
the 565 local self-government units.
