VINKOVCI/SOTIN, April 13 (Hina) - Japanese pediatrician Hiroshi Nishida, who is running a marathon called "Silk Road", on Tuesday departed from the eastern Croatian town of Vinkovci to Sotin near Vukovar.

The final goal of the 18,000-kilometre-long marathon which he began in
the Vatican this February is the former Japanese capital of Nara.
Dr. Nishida, who is planning to pass the first 2,500-kilometre-long
section of the marathon from the Vatican to Istanbul this year,
entered Croatia on 2 April at the border crossing of Bregana (with
Slovenia).
He will leave Croatia tomorrow at the Ilok border crossing and enter
Serbia.
Dr. Nishida, who is the head of the Centre for Mothers and
Perinathology in Tokyo said his wish was to convey the Pope's message
of peace to children and adults throughout the world.
After reaching Istanbul he will make a pause until 2005.
