SARAJEVO, April 3 (Hina) - The international community's High
Representative for Bosnia-Herzegovina, Paddy Ashdown, passed a
decision on Saturday banning any financing of the Serb Democratic
Party (SDS) from public funds.#L#
Ashdown's office said in a statement the decision was made after
Ashdown evaluated the SDS was the most responsible for the fact that
the authorities of the Bosnian Serb entity had done nothing over the
past eight years to arrest any one person suspected of war crimes,
notably former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic.
According to Ashdown, there is good cause to believe that the SDS is
still maintaining financial ties with Kardzic, its founder. He gave
the party a deadline to confirm whether this was true or not, saying
that in the meantime Bosnia could not allow itself the risk to give
public funds to a party still financially tied to war crimes
indictees.
Under Bosnian legislation, every parliamentary party is entitled to
money from the national budget.
