ZAGREB, Feb 19 (Hina) - Expert Catholic associations have supported the
standpoint of the Croatian Bishops' Conference on sexual education and
proposed that the Teen Star programme be introduced in the Croatian
education system instead of the Memoaids programme.#L#
At a news conference held in the European Home on Thursday,
representatives of Catholic associations presented a statement
entitled "Sexual education in Croatian schools - comments by expert
Catholic associations"
"As believers we are outraged by media reports which are insulting for
bishops, the Christian religion and everything that is holy as well as
the Catholic Church in Croatia," read a statement in which the
associations protested against "the selective approach in the media
which does not give an insight into the integral meaning of the
messages of Croatian bishops," the statement said.
The Memoaids programme is not a programme of the comprehensive sexual
education, the statement said.
The associations stress that the Teen Star programme offers a
comprehensive approach to sexual education and that it respects people
in their freedom and dignity and observes them in their physical,
emotional, intellectual, social and spiritual components. The
programme is intended for the youth regardless of their religious and
national background, said the statement signed by the Croatian
Catholic Doctors' Association, the Croatian Catholic Teachers
Associations and the Croatian Catholic Association of Nurses and
Paramedics.
Members of the Catholic associations expressed confidence that the
best and the only 100-percent certain way of prevention is abstinence
before marriage and full faithfulness of married partners.
