WASHINGTON, Jan 8 (Hina) - US President George W. Bush on Thursday awarded the Legion of Merit to Croatian Armed Forces Chief of Staff Josip Lucic for his contribution to the reform of the Croatian military on its path to NATO, the
fight against global terrorism, particularly in Afghanistan, and constructive relations between the Croatian and US armed forces.

awarded the Legion of Merit to Croatian Armed Forces Chief of Staff
Josip Lucic for his contribution to the reform of the Croatian
military on its path to NATO, the fight against global terrorism,
particularly in Afghanistan, and constructive relations between the
Croatian and US armed forces.#L#
A statement issued on this occasion said that under Lucic's leadership
the Croatian armed forces had made a substantial contribution to the
struggle against global terrorism as part of Operation Permanent
Freedom.
The deployment of a Croatian Military Police unit in Afghanistan was
of vital importance in assisting this country in its transition
towards democracy, at the same time demonstrating Croatia's active
commitment to maintaining global security, the statement said.
