ZAGREB, Dec 14 (Hina) - The Croatian non-governmental association
GONG has been given the "Young Active Citizens" Award of the Council of Europe
for its project "I vote for the first time", which has been implemented in
Croatian secondary schools for six years, GONG said in a statement on
Wednesday. The GONG applied with its project for a competition of
the Council of Europe, launched in October to mark the European Year of Civil
Education, and the project was declared one of the five winners of the
competition.
The competition was intended for projects aimed at encouraging young
people to become actively involved in society and raising the awareness about
the importance of active involvement in local community.
The winners of the competition will be presented with awards and a
symbolic reward of 1,000 euros at a ceremony in Strasbourg on January 30.
