Permanent judges at a special plenary session elected Pocar ICTY president and Kevin Parker of Australia ICTY vice president for a two-year period, the tribunal said in a statement.
Pocar, born in 1939, was until now ICTY vice president and became a permanent judge in 2000. He teaches international law at the University of Milan and taught at the International Law Academy in The Hague. He chaired the UN Commission on Human Rights, was the Commission's special representative to Chechnya and Russia, and was a judge of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda Appeals Chamber.
Parker, born in 1937, was a chief prosecutor and Supreme Court judge in Western Australia. He became a permanent ICTY judge in 2003.
