The three-day gathering, which pooled 500 civilian and military physicians, was opened by Deputy Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor.
Thanking physicians for saving many lives during the war, Kosor recalled that in 1992 and 1993 Croatia cared for a million refugees, and that there was no outbreak of epidemics thanks to the health services.
The congress, organised by the Croatian Society for Military Medicine, will also focus on forensic medicine, post-traumatic stress disorder, veterinary medicine, and medical aspects of terrorism. Its aim is to help in formulating a new concept of military health care in Croatia.
