Matjaz Prah said it was a joint obligation of all countries to support the IAEA in its efforts to carry out its basic tasks - the use of atomic energy and nuclear technology for peace purposes and prevention of nuclear programmes intended for the production and proliferation of nuclear arms.
"The fight against terrorism, particularly nuclear terrorism must be a priority of every state and the international community," Prah said recalling that Croatia has recently signed the International Convention on the Suppression of Acts of Nuclear Terrorism.
He spoke about the cooperation between the IAEA and Croatia which he described as very good and successful, particularly in the field of use of nuclear technologies for peace purposes.
Since 1993 when it became an IAEA member, Croatia has developed and implemented many projects of technical cooperation with this international centre for cooperation in the nuclear field.
For the 2007-2005 period Croatia proposes five new projects, worth some 800,000 US dollars. The projects mainly refer to nuclear medicine and the expansion of the seismological network in Croatia in cooperation with the IAEA.
