ZAGREB, Oct 11 (Hina) - Last year's reconnection of the power supply network of southeast Europe to that of the continental part of Europe has helped the Croatian Power Supply Company (HEP) to reduce losses in the transmission of electric energy by some 130 million kWh, amounting to EUR 5 million.

Along with this, the volume of trade (electricity imports, exports and transit) has doubled, which contributes to the stability of prices in Croatia, a member of the HEP Management Board in charge of electricity transfer, Ivica Toljan, said at a seminar called "A Year After the UCTE Reconnection - Experiences" in Zagreb on Tuesday.

The 10 October 2004 reconnection of the largest part of the power supply network of Southeast Europe to that of the main part of the continental European network was coordinated and conducted from Zagreb.

The reconnection was an extremely important event not only for Croatia but for Europe as well, said the director general of Portugal's REN company, Jose Penedos, who will next year take over the presidency of the Union for the Coordination of Transmission of Electricity (UCTE).

HEP Management Board President Ivan Mravak guaranteed power supply this winter and during the next several years.
