SPLIT, Sept 23 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic on Friday visited the southern Adriatic city of Split and met Mayor Zvonimir Puljic and Split-Dalmatia County prefect Ante Sanader.

Mesic also signed the memorial book "Club 1700", which was first opened in 1995, when Split began marking its 1700th anniversary. The marking of the anniversary ends later this year.

The president will also attend the Davis Cup tennis semifinals.

Later today he is due to meet participants in a seminar on the Roman Emperor Diocletian and the palace he built in Split, and attend the unveiling of Diocletian's sarcophagus in the basements of the palace.
