The construction works started on the building site of a bridge over the Zagreb-Vinkovci railway, east of the city of Slavonski Brod.
Opening the construction works on the 88.6-kilometre-long Croatian section of the A5 highway, worth 2.8 billion kuna, Croatian Parliament Speaker Vladimir Seks said that by opening the construction site parliament and the government showed intentions to ensure an equal development of entire Croatia.
Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader said that the Zupanja-Lipovac section of the Zagreb Lipovac highway was expected to be completed next year. He said that construction works were being conducted on a section of the Krapina-Macelj highway and on Split-Ploce highway, adding that the semi-highway Rijeka Zagreb would soon be turned into a normal size highway. The PM announced that the construction of the Zagreb-Sisak highway would soon be launched.
The present were also addressed by Minister of the Sea, Tourism, Transport and Development Bozidar Kalmeta. The project of constructing the A5 highway was presented by the chairman of the board of the Croatian Highways company, Mario Crnjak. He said that the deadline for the completion of the Sredanci-Djakovo section was October 2007, while the entire Zagreb-Osijek highway should be completed by 2008.
The Osijek-Beli Manastir highway should be completed after 2008.
