Speaking about the role of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) in the withdrawal of the approval, Muzur said that this was a victory of the ruling coalition in Opatija, which consists of the Independent List of Amir Muzur, the HDZ and the Pensioners' Party (HSU).
Muzur also commented on events which preceded the government's decision to withdraw its approval for an agreement between the Croatian Privatisation Fund on one side and DOM Holding and SN Holding on the other, which made it possible for the two companies to obtain a controlling stock in the Liburnia Riviera hotel chain.
Stressing the role of the media, Muzur said that the local government received support from different levels of authority, from the government to President Stjepan Mesic.
The town of Opatija will try to reach an agreement in the dispute with the hotel chain, Muzur said explaining that the town would try to obtain ownership of the land on which facilities of the hotel chain are located, while the owners of the chain would manage the hotels and have the right to their revenue. Muzur believes that the local government would thus secure permanent and equal income from land rental.
