The purpose of this humanitarian action, which the Canadian embassies organise in 67 countries all over the world every year, is to raise funds for research aimed at finding medicines for the treatment of cancer patients.
The proceeds from the Jarun race, organised by the Canadian Embassy in Zagreb, the Croatian League for the Fight Against Cancer, the Jarun sports facilities' management and The Regent Esplanade Hotel, will be donated to the oncology ward of the children's hospital in Zagreb.
Last year, 240,000 kuna were raised for this purpose.
Last year, the Jarun race gathered about 2,500 people, and we would like to see more citizens, particularly pupils and undergraduates, take part in the race this year, the Canadian Ambassador in Croatia, Stefanie Beck, told a news conference on Wednesday.
This year's action is to be held under the auspices of Milka Mesic, the wife of Croatian President Stjepan Mesic.
