The "Altruist" organisation from Split said the applications had to be submitted until Thursday even if applicants did not have all required documents, but that the applications had to be certified by a public notary. Applications are to be submitted to the Department for Displaced Persons, Returnees and Refugees or to NGOs dealing with displaced people and refugees.
If the applicants are residing outside Croatia, in Bosnia-Herzegovina or Serbia and Montenegro, their applications must be certified by a competent municipal court.
Ivica Vojko of Altruist said that the campaign, financially assisted by the OSCE Mission to Croatia with 65,000 kuna, had been launched on June 1 so that as many former tenancy rights holders as possible could be acquainted with their rights from the government's program on housing accommodation in areas outside areas of special state interest.
This plan refers to the provision of housing accommodation to returnees who did not own a house or flat, but lived in the so-called socially-owned flats in areas outside of areas of special state interest and had tenancy rights over those flats.
