OPATIJA, July 5 (Hina) - A two-day conference, called "The Western
Balkans: New Challenges for the European Union", which focused on prospects of
south-eastern European countries for the admisison into the Union, wrapped up
in the northern Croatian Adriatic resort of Opatija on Tuesday. The
event, organised by the Austrian-French Centre for Accession to the European
Union and French Institute for International Relations from Paris, brought
together some 40 participants from about 10 European countries.
At the end of the conference, Peter Jankowitsch, the secretary-general
of the Austrian-French centre, said the EU must continue with its expansion so
as to include south-eastern European countries.
