During the 1991-1995 war Serb paramilitary forces killed 164 Croatian soldiers and civilians in the area, including the seven who were given a decent burial today. The bodies of the seven persons were found in the 50-metre deep Golubnjaca pit at Siroka Kula.
The ceremony was attended by the victims' families, the Mayor of Gospic, Milan Kolic, the Vice-President of the Croatian Parliament, Darko Milinovic, and the Minister of War Veterans' Affairs, Jadranka Kosor.
Eighteen persons from Lika-Senj County are listed as missing from the war. "Croatia is still searching for 1,150 Croatian soldiers and civilians and the search will not stop until the last victim is accounted for," Kosor said.
