ZAGREB, June 29 (Hina) - The head of the Jewish community in
Zagreb, Ognjen Kraus, said on Wednesday that it had been decided at an
emergency session of the Assembly of the Zagreb Jewish Municipality on Tuesday
that a proposal on signing a new contract with Rabbi Kotel Da-Don should be
sent back to the Municipal Council for reconsideration. Kraus told
Hina by telephone that it had not yet been decided when the next session of the
Council would take place, but added that he would like it to be held before
the summer recess.
Earlier this month the Council of the Jewish Municipality decided not
to extend Rabbi Da-Don's contract, which expires on September 1.
The rabbi has been in Croatia for the past seven years and his contract
has been extended every year.
Kraus rejected insinuations of financial wrongdoing in the Jewish
Municipality, saying they were "nothing but false accusations" and announcing
legal action.
Kraus noted that all financial matters were discussed by the Council
and that Council members had never raised any objections to the budget.
