In line with Serbia and Montenegro's Law on National Minorities, the symbols are not identical to those used in Croatia, but unequivocally point to Croatian origins, it was stated at the session, with councillors voting in favour of the proposed symbols virtually unanimously.
Council chairman Josip Pekanovic said he expected local Croats to accept the symbols, adding the decision on the symbols was of historic importance.
The Croat minority will be able to display its symbols at local government offices in which it has its representatives, namely in Subotica, Sombor and Apatin.
