The name of the Serbian Prime Minister in the third paragraph was incorrectly written. The name of the Serbian Prime Minister is Vojislav Kostunica.
The entire article should read as follows:
"ZAGREB, June 7 (Hina) - The right path for Croatia is reconciliation,
cooperation with the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia,
return of refugees, restitution of property and association with NATO and the
EU, "which we want and deserve," Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader said in
Zagreb on Tuesday during his visit to the headquarters of the Organisation for
Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Mission to Croatia.
Sanader
visited the OSCE headquarters in Zagreb at the invitation of OSCE Mission head
Jorge Fuentes Monzonis Vilallonga.
"The normalisation of relations
with Serbia and Montenegro is the key to stabilisation of the region," Sanader
said, adding that he had visited Serbia and Montenegro and that preparations
for the visit of Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica to Zagreb were under
way.
Commenting on two recent events in Serbia - establishment of
the government-in-exile of the so-called Republic of Srpska Krajina and a
Chetnik rally in Ravna Gora - Sanader said he had warned Kostunica that such
events were not good for Serbia.
"However, we must continue with
normalisation and reconciliation because it is important for the entire region
and for us," Sanader said.
The PM stressed that cooperation with the
UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague was important. "War crimes can be committed
even when you defend yourself," Sanader said.
"Everybody who
committed war crimes must be put on trial and that is in line with the laws of
war," Sanader said and added that for him there was no difference between
Generals Mladen Markac, Ivan Cermak, Milivoj Petkovic and Ante
Gotovina.
"We believe it is a good sign that the ICTY has agreed to
refer some trials to Croatia, because it proves that The Hague views Croatia as
a reliable partner," Sanader said.
The PM went on to say that it was
also important to normalise relations with Bosnia-Herzegovina where Croats are
the smallest ethic group. "It is important that Croats in Bosnia-Herzegovina
enjoy equal rights as the other two constituent ethnic groups," Sanader
said.
Speaking about the return of refugees and the restitution of
property, Sanader mentioned the Sarajevo Declaration, adding that Croatia was
very active in its implementation. Even though he said the objectives of the
Sarajevo Declaration were very ambitious - the restitution of property and the
return of all refugees by the end of 2006 - Sanader added that Croatia was
doing all that it could to achieve those goal.
"Croatia is more
advanced than other countries (in the region). We did not wait for the Sarajevo
Declaration or a similar meeting to do that," Sanader said.
The
prime minister called on the OSCE to help create new jobs primarily in areas
affected by the 1991-1995 war.
The Croatian government has done all
it could, but this was not enough, which is why it calls on the OSCE to do what
it can to bring more "greenfield investments to Croatia" because it would help
overcome the present difficult situation and restore trust, Sanader
said.
Fuentes said that the OSCE showed good will to help Croatia on
its path. The OSCE wishes to facilitate Croatia's progress to the EU and hopes
the country will join the Union soon, he said, adding that the OSCE Mission
planned to withdraw from Croatia soon."
