ZAGREB/BRUSSELS, June 23 (Hina) - British Prime Minister Tony
Blair said on Thursday that the enlargement of the European Union provided an
"extraordinary, historic opportunity to build a greater and more powerful
union", and added that the EU would honour its commitments to Turkey and
Croatia. Blair said this while addressing the European Parliament in
Brussels. He briefed the parliament about priorities Britain will have after
it takes over the six-month rotating presidency over the European bloc on 1
July this year.
During our presidency we shall try to meet the Union's obligations
towards countries such as Turkey and Croatia that expect to have their future
in Europe, Blair was quoted by the French news agency AFP as saying.
