The event, organised by NATO, pooled some 60 experts from NATO member-countries and Croatia. Opening the conference, Family, War Veterans and Inter-Generational Solidarity Minister Jadranka Kosor said that the war had left devastating consequences for Croatia, but that people suffering from PTSD were being given social support and appropriate medical care.
She added that Croatia had legislation regulating the status and treatment of veterans suffering from PTSD.
Kosor said that suicides among veterans were the most important problem and that 1,503 veterans had committed suicide in the period between 1991 and 2004.
The Cavtat conference will last until June 16.
