Opening the event, Swedish Ambassador Sture Theolin said there were two reasons for organising the conference. The first reason is the fact that the coast is too sensitive and exposed to various influences, from what flows into the sea with rivers to the effects of human activities, while the second reason is the tourist industry, which calls for the development and preservation of the coast so that Croatian citizens could continue to benefit financially from it, as well as develop high quality tourism, Theolin said.
Apart from some 20 business people and the Swedish ambassador, the conference is attended by a number of Swedish and Croatian officials from the field of environmental protection and representatives of Split County, the HGK, companies from the area of Split, the World Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Commission.
