The union demands the signing of a collective agreement whereby salaries would grow over the next three years, with a 5.6 per cent increase this year.
The union said earlier the strike would last until their demands were met, but after talks with Education Minister Dragan Primorac on Wednesday evening, it was said an agreement might be reached today, so the strike is not expected to last long.
Union leader Nikola Andric said last night the negotiators were "on the best path to reach an agreement," while Minister Primorac told students to come to school today because the problem would be solved by noon.
This morning Andric said the negotiations would continue today and that the strike would be called off only after the collective agreement was signed.
