The Belgian minister said that it was very important for Croatia to resolve the only remaining open issue with the Hague war crimes tribunal as soon as possible so that EU membership talks could start.
Mesic underlined the importance of individualisation of guilt for war crimes in Croatia and the entire region, and added that the Hague tribunal was playing an important role in this.
The Croatian president said that European processes in the region should be speeded up. In this context he said that it was important to face historical facts and that revision of the historical truth should not be allowed.
On Monday, the Belgian minister is scheduled to meet the Croatian Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic, for talks on bilateral issues and Croatia's progress towards EU and NATO membership.
