Quoting sources close to Draskovic, the Belgrade daily said in an article headlined "Mesic Apologises to Chetniks" that Mesic apologised to Draskovic over the phone, saying that "internal problems" forced him to harshly criticise the Ravna Gora event.
In the statement issued today the Office of the Croatian President dismissed claims that Mesic apologised for his previous statements about the Chetnik movement or stated that he was prompted to such a reaction by internal political reasons.
Quoting Radio B92, "Glas javnosti" said that Mesic would visit Belgrade on June 28 and that sources in Zagreb had confirmed that the visit would take place at the end of June, but were unable to state the exact date.
The Office of the President said that President Mesic had never questioned the reason for postponing preparations for his official visit to Serbia and Montenegro or changed his position on the Chetnik movement.
According to the Belgrade daily, Mesic apologised to Draskovic during a brief phone conversation which took place while he was at a conference in Varna and which was arranged by Serbian Culture Minister Dragan Kojadinovic, who also attended the conference.
Mesic's office said that during his visit to Varna President Mesic did have a brief and informal phone conversation with Draskovic at the initiative of the Serbian side, and that during the conversation he reiterated his opposition to attempts to revise historical facts and depict Chetniks as anti-fascists.
Concluding its statement, the Office of the President said that President Mesic insists on his well-known position on fascism, neo-fascism, and revision of established historical facts.
