Sanader told reporters that his party's rating went up in some counties, cities and municipalities, stressing that the elections objective was thus achieved.
Commenting on election results in Zagreb, Sanader said that after all votes were counted the final results would be known.
Asked to comment on the results in the eastern Croatian city of Osijek, Sanader said that the HDZ thwarted plans of Branimir Glavas to win the elections in Osijek city and county and form a regional party with the HDZ brand.
Sanader said the HDZ won more seats in the Split City Council than at the last elections and added that the incumbent city authorities must be replaced because they did not do a good job.
Sanader ascribed a poor turnout to European trends, adding that Croatia followed European trends in that as well.
