Editor in chief Ivan Miklenic said that the 60th anniversary of the end of World War Two and victory over Nazi Germany had been used in Croatia to once again politicise the past, which he added "creates a rift in the Croatian society and deeply insults and hurts the victims whose status as victims has de facto still not been recognised".
Miklenic said the crimes committed by the Ustasha could not be justified with anything, nor could those committed by the partisans and the Communist Party, which he said had not only fought against an outside occupying force and its domestic collaborators, but also fought for power.
He said it was incredible that such obvious hypocrisy could be so strong in present-day Croatia, which he added was very sensitive to the crimes committed in the 1990s war of independence. He said Croatia rightfully mourned more than 7,000 Croatisn soldiers and civilians killed in the Greater Serbia aggression, but also the 700 Serb civilian victims.
Miklenic said it was incredible that even after 60 years "there is no willingness in Croatia to equally respect every victim and to equally condemn every crime, regardless of who committed it".
