"This move is regretful but I don't advocate being dramatic. The defense attorneys of the indictees need to take a good position. The Tribunal and not the Prosecution determines the truth," Racan said answering questions from the press after a meeting of SDP leaders.
"The indictment was amended most probably to collect as many arguments as possible against the indictees and it needs to be looked at in the context of the reduction of command responsibility," Racan said,
Asked whether the expanding of the indictment would reflect on the decision on a date for the start of Croatia's EU entry talks, Racan said "I would not jump to the conclusion that this will create additional difficulties for Croatia".
"I believe that an improvement or a deterioration of relations is more up to us than to Carla del Ponte. Regardless of the intent of the chief prosecutor, Croatia and the defense of the indicted generals must be organised well so that the truth can be established. Hiding the truth, as proven in the past, did not help Croatia," Racan said.
