"Our source, who wished to remain anonymous, has said that US representatives have postponed the presentation of the decoration, but the exact date when the Legion of Merit will be handed has not been set yet. The decision of the US administration has been influenced by Croatia's strong opposition to decorating 'the Chetnik leader of a World War II Quisling movement'," Blic reports.
Draza Mihailovic, who was sentenced and executed as a war criminal after WWII, was decorated posthumously for saving 500 US airmen during the war. Blic also reports that the decision on giving the decoration to Mihailovic's descendants was kept secret because the US administration did not want to insult the former Yugoslav communist authorities.
