However, given that the acquittal was quashed only a day before the absolute statute of limitations sets in, the Municipal Court in the southern Adriatic city can do nothing but state so on Wednesday, Scepanovic added.
The County Court decided to quash the ruling due to significant procedural violations and because the ruling was incomprehensible and contradictory.
Asked for a comment, Djapic told Hina he did not comment on court decisions. "I think this is finally the end of the story," he said.
Split's Municipal Court on April 4 ruled that although it had been proven that Djapic had copied most of his master's thesis from the works of his mentor Kandare, the issue should have been dealt with by Split's Law School, which had given him the degree.
The Municipal Prosecutor's Office appealed the acquittal eight days after the ruling was handed down, but the County Court received the ruling only late last week, after the County Prosecutor's Office had taken a position on it.
The acquittal would have become final only if it had been confirmed within the legal deadline.
